How to Write Maritime Research Papers

Research papers and term papers in maritime studies are written in CSE/CBE Style. The style and format of Maritime papers differ on the basis of length, type and level of the paper.

Maritime studies involve a study of the oceans which offers opportunities that provide an international dimension to different majors. The subject involves programs like oceanography and other aspects of maritime as well as naval studies. Maritime studies are also conducted as part of an interdisciplinary curriculum and allows for examining the oceans in a comprehensive manner especially when taken in a context of the sphere of international affairs to different policies and events.

One of the most important things to consider while writing a research paper or a term paper in maritime studies is to present ideas and information in the clearest terms possible so that there is nothing unambiguous about them and can be understood as easily as reasonably possible. Research papers are expected to have an expository style and are not supposed to be full of repeated information and a collection of rich words but rather a paper exhibiting academic integrity and professional language and technical knowledge.

One of the important things to consider when writing a paper is including citations and giving due credit to authors of previous works. There are essentially 2 main aspects of citing in Maritime papers: in-text citation and references to works used in the paper in the bibliography page at the end of the paper. The bibliography should only include items that have been used and discussed in the paper explicitly. Bibliography formats vary but the essence is the same and includes sources such as Periodicals, Books, Edited books, newspapers and electronic resources.

Historical background is often considered as the intellectual core of the broader study of the ocean as a source and avenue of a diverse range of useful resources such as foodstuffs, energy, world trade and business, mass movement of people and recreation as well as cultural inspiration.

Maritime studies are taught at several well-known universities around the world and the discipline has a separate department at many colleges and universities.
